Prof. Seang Lin Tan

Founder & Medical Director – MBBS, FRCOG, FRCSC, FACOG, MMed (O&G), MBA

Prof. Seang Lin Tan is a globally respected infertility expert and a pioneer in the simplification of in vitro fertilization (IVF). He completed his medical training at the University of Singapore (MBBS) and earned his MMed in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the National University of Singapore. He was awarded both the Howard Eddey Gold Medal and the MRCOG Gold Medal, followed by the FRCOG, FRCSC, and FACOG. He also holds an MBA with distinction from NYU, LSE, and HEC Paris – TRIUM Executive Program.

Prof. Tan was the Founding Medical Director of the London Women’s Clinic and worked alongside Nobel Laureate Professor Robert Edwards, Professor Howard Jacobs, and Professor Stuart Campbell. He currently serves as a Full Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at McGill University, where he holds the James Edmund Dodds Chair and is the Founding Director and Medical Director of OriginElle Fertility Clinic & Women’s Health Centre in Montreal and Ottawa.

From 1994 to 2010, he was the Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University, the only person to hold the role for three terms. He also served as Gynecologist-in-Chief at the McGill University Health Centre and founded the McGill Reproductive Centre in 1996. During this time, he created eight fellowship programs and helped establish three prestigious chairs in the department with personal and philanthropic support.

Prof. Tan’s team has achieved some of the highest IVF pregnancy success rates in the world. Under his leadership, they introduced numerous world and national firsts, including:

• First air-transport IVF program and pregnancy in North America
• First successful PGD birth in Canada
• First IVM twin birth in the world
• First IVM/PGD pregnancy globally
• First IVM egg donation pregnancy in North America
• First baby born in Canada from a frozen egg
• First four babies in the world born from IVM oocyte vitrification

He co-invented the McGill Cryoleaf vitrification device and IVM culture media. His work has been recognized with major awards including:

• Resolve Award – National Infertility Association (USA)
• Singapore Lecture Gold Medal – RCOG (UK)
• Benjamin Sheares Gold Medal – Singapore
• Lifetime Achievement Award – Turkish Society of Reproductive Medicine
• Exchange Speaker Awards – CFAS & ESHRE

Prof. Tan has delivered over 320 lectures worldwide and published more than 312 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals such as The Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, and JAMA. He holds international patents across Canada, the U.S., Europe, the U.K., China, and Australia.

He has mentored 23 clinical fellows, supervised 14 PhD/MD theses, and guided over 30 research students. Prof. Tan’s editorial roles include serving on 16 journals and reviewing for 12, including Human Reproduction and Reproductive Biomedicine Online. He is an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Genetics.

He is the founder or president of numerous professional organizations, including:

• International Society of IVF (ISIVF)
• International Society of IVM
• Global Chinese Association of Reproductive Medicine (GCARM)
• McGill International Symposium on Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

Prof. Tan’s patients have included referrals from Harvard, Stanford, Cornell, Oxford, and other elite institutions, as well as celebrities, Canadian ministers, and business leaders. Many of his fellows have gone on to lead departments and IVF centers globally.

In recognition of his groundbreaking contributions, Prof. Tan received the Honorable Senator Victor Oh Legacy Award of Canada for leadership and service to the community.
